Shigeru Miyamoto talks about the next Nintendo console

Although the Nintendo Switch is a worldwide success, with five years already in the market, many wonders when the company's following console will be revealed. Although it seems that it is not yet time for this, Shiner Miyamoto spoke about the capabilities of retrocompatibility today.

As part of a question and answer session by investors, Miyamoto was questioned at the possibility of seeing some type of retrocompatibility in the following Nintendo console. This was what he commented:

In the past, we provided a service known as‘ Virtual console ’that allowed users to play older video games in new consoles. While the hardware remained unchanged, those games could continue playing.

However, the publication rights of video games are complicated, and we have said that we will only add titles after ensuring the necessary rights.

Of course, video games developed for dedicated consoles were created in different development environments for each console. As a result, when the hardware changed, the development environment could not necessarily be reused and, therefore, video games that had been released in older consoles could not be played in newer consoles without additional modifications.

Recently, however, the development environment has been standardized more and more, and now we have an environment that allows players to enjoy old video games on newer consoles more easily than ever.

However, Nintendo's force is in the creation of new video game experiences, so when we launch new hardware in the future, we would like to show unique video games that could not be created with pre-existing hardware.

Although the possibility that the Nintendo console has some type of retrocompatibility with the switch or one of its previous hardware pieces, the statements of Miyamoto indicate that the company's approach is in creating unique experiences . We only have to wait and what kind of console will offer us in the future.

Although at the moment there is no official information, An analyst has indicated that the Nintendo console would reach the market at some point of 2024 , but the constant success of the switch could change this.
